Objectives
The name Assam Knowledge Spectrum: Heritage, Access and Reach (AKSHAR) serves as a deliberate roadmap for the project. In Assamese and Sanskrit, Akshar (অক্ষৰ / अक्षर) literally means "letter" or "syllable" - the fundamental building block of literacy. Aligning the project's core objectives with the literal meaning of each word in the title reveals the strategic vision:
Assam: Defines the geographic, political, and socio-cultural boundaries of the project. The objectigve is to cater to the needs of Assam's unique demographic landscape, ensuring that the initiative covers everthing within its borders and reach everyone - from the bustling urban centers of Guwahati to the remotest river islands and hill districts.
Knowledge: Focuses on democratising information. The project treats knowledge as a public utility, ensuring that students, researchers, and farmers alike have seamless access to the data they need for education, competitive examination, or local livelihoods.
Spectrum: Symbolises a broad, continuous sequence of diverse elements without abrupt gaps. The objective is to capture the entire continuum of learning, from ancient to the modern resources leaving no form of regional knowledge behind.
Heritage: Focuses on the past and present preservation of identity. The objective is to digitise, archive, and safeguard the literary and historical identity of Assam ensuring rare texts are protected for future generations.
Access: Focuses on the breaking down physical and digital barriers. The objective is to provide a universal digital gateway, enabling equitanble access to resources for every citizen, regardless of their socio-economic status.
Reach: Focuses on the expansion and grassroot impact. The objective is to aggressively expand the network's footprint, scaling down to the absolute grassroots level by connecting state, district, sub-divisional, and remote rural libraries into a unified network, while actively mobilising public goodwill through crowdsourced community fundraising.
